That's a good point about the batteries being full reducing the benefit of
MPPT in net metering. Here is an interesting idea. What about using eleven
2 volt cells in a 24 volt system? This would bring the system voltage down
increasing the benefits of MPPT. You could adjust the set points on the SW
to compensate for the missing 2 volts and still have batteries fully charged
waiting for a power outage. I didn't think it out much, but I you still get
the idea.
I'd like to set up a something on my array side (vs. the common - of the
system) and use it to count the array's amp hour production. A Tri-Metric
or similar would be nice and I believe it would be more accurate than the
C40 DVM and for the most part, pretty inexpensive. What would really be
nice would be something that would take voltage into account and give daily
watt hours. Yes, you could do this with a data logger but it will require
combining two channels and would a lot more expensive than a customer would
want to pay. It seems that this would be a great product in this day of net
metering systems gaining popularity.
