48 Volt Solar Boost 50 [RE-wrenches]

Wrenches,
We have sold 8 RVPP SB2000s and 8 RV50s, and installed most of these.  We
are very pleased so far.  We have seen two production problems:
1) The MPPT adjustment pot on one SB50 was defective at installation.  We
completed the installation, and Rick sent us a new control board, which he
claimed was an easy replacement within the enclosure.  It was.
2) One SB2000 now in the field has one bar of the LCD display nonfunctional,
so hard to determine 12.6V from 12.8.  We'll swap with customer under
warranty when he brings it in.

So we are very happy with performance, considering it's a new product.  No
field failures yet.

The sleeper benefits of this unit are (1) the ease of initiating and
terminating equalizing; and (2) the shunt sense function that compensates
during acceptance stage for varying DC loads.  Real sweet.

Our biggest headache is difficult initial setup.  It takes a separate 12V
battery temp'ed in to set up the MPPT boost, as batteries must be full or
nearly so to set finish voltage from a meter.  We use an old 12V 35A gel
cell for this.  Of course, setting MPPT boost is best on a low battery...So
sometimes it's a guess. Test points a la C40 would be nice.

We have asked Rick for: UL listing.  A small (20-25A) 24V unit; this has
been promised.  A 48V unit; see recent messages.  Test setpoints.  Enclosure
KOs that match up to a DC175 Trace box with offset nipples, a la C40.  And a
Heinemann DC input breaker, a la Pulse TC60 in the enclosure.  If you agree
with any of these, add your voice!
