Hydro-Stream Engine [RE-wrenches]

Hi Gary.   I have used the DC 48/24 volt converters on an ES&D turbine
and it works well, but I'll let you dothe math of comparing the wire
cost to the converters. The conmverters are $168 each in AEE catalog.
I used Solar Converters DC Autotransformer.  The DC Autotransformer
handles 240 watts, so for your 28 amps it would take three, but they
wire up nicely in parallel.  Wire size at 48 volt instead of 24 comes
down considerably, but the real payoff is on longer runs wih less power.

    The ES&D instructs says which wiring to use for 48 volt, then run
the wire as 48, do the step down at the batteries, works slick.  Lee
Tavenner.  Solar Plexus. Montana.
    The AC transformers would also work. The transformers need to be
three phase and matched for the frequency.  They  run about $500.
Usually best to do with the turbine being special wound for 120 volt to
get the extra wire size reduction.
