There are getting to be a lot of small 3600 RPM diesels out there. All
imported and I don't expect them to last long as a 1800 RPM unit. A
generator is a nasty load to carry. Engines generally don't like steady RPM
and varying load, they prefer varying RPM and a steady load.

	If they are direct drive, they are 1800 RPM. Very few diesel engines run
much faster than 2,000 RPM, and they don't need to anyway, as they have
tons of torque at low revs. The main reason for 3,600 RPM with gas engines
is this is very convienently the upper end of the torque curve for gasoline
(and propane) engines. A gas engine direct driving an 1,800 RPM generator
would have to be almost twice the horsepower to shoulder the load, compared
to what is needed at 3,600. It would tend to bog down under load, wouldn't
be very efficient, and would probably release yet more pollutants than if
it was running in it's "sweet spot" around 3,600.
