wrenches self promotion [RE-wrenches]

Referral Fees:

I would like to suggest that with the time, effort and funds that we put
into advertising and developing our Web sites--it would be nice to have a
benefit other than "good will" when we hand our prospect to someone else
(that came to us as a result of our effort).

As a real estate broker, it is a standard business practice that if someone
comes to me for help, and I can see that the prospect is better served by
another, I contact the other potential service provider and set up a
referral fee (within my profession). In this way, I only benefit if the
other service provider was able to benefit the prospect and himself/herself.
As for me, I enjoy helping others at no charge (my philosophy is to help
others and to be happy)--however, as in alternative energy, in real estate,
we are experts providing a service. If another "expert" throws business my
way, I am thankful, and insist on offering a referral fee for the
consideration. So, I say, seek renumeration for the long, hard and
thankless hours that you have toiled, and by all means, refer prospects to
others, that they may be better (or more promptly) served. Seek not to try
to do everything thyself. Delegate your responsiblities that ye may become
more proficient in what ye do. Sermon over.
