Sewer Pump 1/2HP 120vac / DR2424 [RE-wrenches]

In response to Sharkey and others on the septic tank pump, I think there
are two types of systems.  One system uses and effulent pump, usually in
a two tank system with a baffle in the first tank keeping most of the
solid matter in the first tank (pump in second tank).  Some systems use
a grinder pump which does what it sounds like and is usually a much
heavier load and 240vac.   I think it would be a shame to have to
dedicate a large inverter to this one pump.  The DC pump Windy speaks of
makes good sense to me and if they are not too expensive, why not give
it a try.  Most of these systems are designed to "dose" the mound once
or twice a day and is adjusted by the position of the switch in the
tank.  Don't know if the DC pump is heavey/continuous duty and maybe
more frequent pumping (setting the switch lower) may be a good idea.  A
second pump could be set "higher".  All such tanks should have a float
switch alarm, warning the residents if the tank gets really full do to a
pump problem.  I did one system where-in I wired the  effluent pump
through the normally closed contacts on a 30 amp heavy duty relay with
the coil pulled in by the 120vac pressure switch supplying voltage to
the primary side of the 120/240 transformer powering the homes 240 vac
3/4 HP deep-well pump.  Both pumps running at the same time, along with
washing machine/furnace/hot water power vent/regular home loads, may
have been too much for the SW4024.  This arrangement made sense, as the
effulent pump was a really big load, but doesn't need to run all the
time.  The float is set at about 1/2 full tank (1,000 gal) and the homes
pressure tank is large enough to allow occasional well pump run time. 
Again, the alarm on the system will sound if the tank ever gets over 3/4
full, which has never happened in one year of operation.  I have a
tendency to not over-size system components -- throw big inverters and
such at the problem and it will go away....  Whatever - Kurt Nelson
