I think, if you are referring to the SolarBoost 50 diagram on their page 10,
that it is a problem of drawing style rather than + and - shorted.  A lead
from the negative shunt goes into a semi circle, the other half of the
circle is a lead to battery +  Between the halves are the words "to all
loads"  I believe they meant those two wires to be separate and the printed
words to represent the loads, rather than a direct connection between the
two wire halves.  The weakness there is that the wires point toward
eachother with only the words between, rather than the + and - wires
departing parallel toward the words "to all loads".
