UL standard 1741 OR lockable visible disconnect [RE-wrenches]

In response to the visible lockable disconnect on utility inter-tie
systems, I have installed two systems in the Alliant/Wisconsin Power and
Light territory.  In one case, the system was being installed in an
earth sheltered/roofed underground home and I really wanted to avoid
conduit runs from the utility room of the home and the exterior of the
dwelling.  The inspector I spoke with at Alliant asked what type of
inverter I was using and when I explained it was a Trace SW, he said he
would not require the exterior disconnect.  They did the same deal at
another install in their territory, though I must say that while working
with them, I got the impression it was all new to them and they were
taking their cues from me.  Also, both these systems went in the summer
before last, and yet I am still getting calls from Alliant asking for
more spec's and info on the systems.  It is very interesting to note
that the Trace owner's/installation manual specifically states that the
visible lockable disconnect must be installed!  Go figure.
