Ampair 100 charge control [RE-wrenches]

Greetings Clive,

I'm not familar with Ampair 100's, nor their regulator, but Solar
Converters Inc. makes a device very much like Photon's Simple switch (no
longer available).  They make a voltage controlled thirty amp relay that
can be used to bring a load on-line at a user selected high voltage
setting and disconnect the load at a seperate user selected lower
voltage setting.  It could bring an appropriate sized load onto the
battery at the point you would want to regulate.   I think you can get
them through A.E.E. (800.777.6609) though they are not in their
catalog.  You could try Solar Converters direct.  They are out of
Guelph, ON. Canada and can be reached at 519.824.5272,.  They do have a
web page though I don't remember it at the moment
(www.solarconverters.com??).  If you have voltage surges coming in on a
phone line, better try and deal with that first or this device will
probably also smoke.  Maybe a Delta LA-302R, and although they make a DC
version of this surge arrestor, I was told by a techie at Delta that the
guts in the DC and the regular LA-302R are exactly the same.  What kind
of grounding do you have on this system and what is being powered?  One
other thought.  You said the regulator was regulating at a voltage above
the actual battery voltage.  I don't know where the regulator is
positioned but if it is some distance from the battery, could voltage
drop/line loss/wire size be part of the problem?  Don't know if this
will help. but here in the States, both the relay device and the
lightning arrestor could be had for around $100US.
