List members,

Looking at running the computer on DC your voltage will reach or exceed
around 184 volts when equalizing and 174 when doing a normal charge. I don't
think any computer is going to eat that kind of voltage happily....... At
least not for long.
There are people on this list who have converted stuff in the past, I am NOT
one of them. I can't even get a MK 8 regulator to work right.....

Maybe I am wrong but it would be a cause for concern.

	Don't know if anyone has thought about this in conjunction with the
request for inverter info, but if the battery voltage is 144 volts, it
probably isn't necessary to invert it to AC at all! Just feed it into the
computer's power supply and it will do the rest. (Having said this, of
course, it would be necsessary to confirm that all of the computers
components are run from the OUTPUT side of the power supply, no AC line
voltage fans, etc. Also important to check to see if the monitor and other
peripherals have switching power supplies).
	The very first active component in ANY AC-to-DC switching power supply is
a bridge rectifier. That's right, they are actually DC-to-DC converters,
the AC is unnecessary for their operation.
	Obviously, there are serious safety concerns with switching the high
voltage DC going into a device, but having overcome that and proper fusing,
the inverter part of this request is actually a 'phantom load', and nothing
but a power drain.
	Any peripherals in the system (printers, scanners, etc) would have to be
powered by switching power supplies themselves, or left off of the system
when it is run from DC. As we all know, transformers won't get along well
with DC.
	Hmmm... do I see a subject for a furure HP article?? I have some old 286
computers, maybe I'll plug one of them in to my EV (130 VDC under charge),
and see what happens!!!
