Trace Settings [RE-wrenches]

	When I crabbed at Vanderhoof last year at the OCF, he told me to put a
small gel-cell on the DC input to the Trace to keep it alive during power
downs.

Unfortunately when you do an equalizing charge the gel-cell will be toast,
they can't take the high voltages that we use to equalize a standard lead
acid battery.
You would need to make it switchable so you could turn it on when you had to
power the system down without interrupting the power flow. That's another
box and switch, it's probably easier to just write it down and hope that the
owner doesn't lose the manual!

On a car we used to use the cigarette lighter to backfeed the computer to
keep the memory up when we have to disconnect the battery. We could probably
do something similar but it will not look good. We need to get Trace to wire
it internally for us. Then we could use a Ni-Cad or other similar battery to
keep things up when we disconnected the pack.
What is the minimum voltage that will keep the memory alive? Does it have to
match pack voltage, or will a 9 volt battery do the job?
