Todd,
    Your problem is unusual, but here's part of it.  I think you're causing
an intermittent overload of the gennie.  At 3800' you need to derate more
for altitude.  Try 14A on AC2 in (that's a SWAG number, not a calculated
one).
    Also try matching setting max charge current to the same as AC2 amps,
then set them widely apart.  Let your observations of the results in each
case help you deduce the cause.
