DC power to answer machines [RE-wrenches]

If the storm is over, I would like to venture a tentative answer to Sharkey
answer machine ordeal. If I understand correctly, you had to remove the
ground reference from the battery to eliminate hum on the answer machine a
common problem. Not withstanding the second problem of custom power to the
10 volt AC, are you aware that there has been a DC-DC converter that just
strips off any DC reference that is just for that purpose and costs less
than $25, in fact dealers can buy for a lot under that.  It is good for
about 0.5 amp, enough for several message machines. I thought that was a
well known unit. Pretty efficient and reliable. From DC to Lite in Arizona
wholesale, or of course our catalog.
This gets 12 volts in, about 12 volts out, but no voltage measured between
neg input and pos output, or between pos input and neg output.
Lightning protection added is a good idea because this as well as the
message machine are in the path of lightning induced phone wire surges on
their way to your grounded battery.
