SW2512 and pump problems [RE-wrenches]

This is to be expected with a 2-wire pump. It lacks the separate
start winding of a 3-wire pump (with control box to cut the start
winding out).

The load on the pump does not effect the magnitude of the starting
surge, but only (maybe) its duration.
I would suggest either switch to a 3-wire pump (somewhat less
surge/use one with a Franklin 1/3HP motor, 115V), or a Grundfos SQ
electronic motor AC pump (soft start, no surge). Efficiency is
probably similar with either of these, except for the no surge with
more expensive SQ.
Another possibility is to pump once a day, or once every few days,
into a storage tank, then use a DC pressurizing pump like Flowlight
Booster Pump, to handle the frequent pressurizing.
I could suggest a DC submersible pump, but with a 12V system,
pressurizing, your choices are severely limited.
