LED's for sign lighting revisited [RE-wrenches]

I have made readable signs with LEDs inserted from rear in holes in a sign
to form point-defined letters. Viewing the letter patterns direct gives
readability at much greater distance with much less power than illuminating
painted letters from the front. Letters about 6 inches high with about 6
leds each or more worked. 6 standard LEDs wires series will use near
correct milliamps on 12 volt, however that depends on brand and type. A
small resistor may be needed to keep in a good range, about 20 ma. for the
strings of 6. Superbrights cost a lot more and use different voltages and
current, I find about 3 of those in series work on 12 volts at correct
current.
