From a performance standpoint and to reduce service issues, it might be wise to increase wire size to account for heat in an enclosure. But from an NEC standpoint, that's not required. For example, nobody I know derates #12 Romex in a 140º attic for a 20A circuit and uses #10 instead. Similarly, we aren't tasked with guessing what the temperature might be within a raceway (except on rooftops) or inside enclosures. </div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif"><br></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif">Heck, the 75º conductor rating tops out in the temperature correction table at 158ºF. I'm willing to bet that temperature is achievable inside a disconnect switch in Florida, in which case there would be NO conductor size allowable for use in this circumstance if the terminals are 75ºF rated.</div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif"><br></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif">With HD fusible disconnects substantially more expensive, the performance question becomes important. <p>114F was just the temperature where the derate in the NEC goes
below the continuous amps rating. I had no idea what the
temperatures actually were. Normally I do just as you did, and
figure ambient temperature based on AHSRAE. However another read
of that part of the code seems to indicate it would be the highest
air temperature the conductor would be exposed to. So the section
of wiring in the attic at 140 F should be designed for that.
There is an exemption if its less than 10% of the total circuit,
though. <br>

<p>This is yet another thing I haven't been really paying enough
attention to, but now that someone else is having issues, its
probably time to include even more strenuous temperature
derating. How, for instance, would we calculate the temperature
inside that disconnect box when its in the sun? and it would
depend on the color.....<br>

less than the 54.45 that Dave just calculated for
continuous duty. <br>

microinverters on an IQ
Combiner, requiring 60A fuses on the 60A
fusible disconnect. The combined
inverter output rating is 43.56A. The
interconnections are identical with #6
THHN 90ºC conductors and Polaris taps.
Both disconnects have conductors on the
right-hand side line-side terminal that
are discolored (the copper is silvery,
the insulation is not burned). The fuses
blow at peak current around 1:30 pm,
only on bright and sunny days.</div>

starting to suspect a faulty fusible
disconnect switch. Maybe the blades are
not making proper contact with the line
side terminals.</div>

regular/frequent fuses blowing I plan to
replace the disconnect with a heavy-duty
