I had a similar experience with Trojan vented L-16s about two years ago: all of a sudden the product would not perform as it used to. A vendor let slip that plate chemistry had been modified. I was later told that charge voltages needed to be higher than ever recommended previously-voltages difficult to achieve off-grid. This product degradation has been discussed here. Likewise it was helpful to corroborate experiences. Thanks, everyone!
I have had some success in being a LOT more aggressive with voltages & times and sometimes going above FLA settings to get banks to recover and perform closer to spec. Makes me nervous though, since more than 50% of a customer\u2019s investment can just vaporize with what one thought was appropriate charge settings. I suggest EQ as the new norm for AGMs, especially in grid-tied-battery-backup cases and where off-grid use does not give adequate absorb time.
