That is fascinating news about getting the same bad
FET cause from the Trace tech that I got to my original genset out of gas
situation. I haven't posted here since I haven't heard anything definitive
from Trace but your post prompts me to reply.
I did receive an e-mail from Geoff Levin claiming
that (according to Trace) there is sufficient protection on the circuits to
prevent a generator overvoltage from harming the FETs and that my problem
couldn't be caused by the genset running out of gas. Frankly, though I
don't think Geoff is intentionally misleading me, I think he may have been sold
a bill of goods by his bosses. If Trace techs who are doing the work are
saying that to more folks than me then I think the sensitivity of the FETs in
the 4024 to overvoltages is a problem that may be at the heart of a lot of
issues Wrenches face in the field.
I have yet to hear from Trace concerning the unit I
returned a week and a half ago so I still don't have more to go on than my
original conversation with the tech who did the work on my older unit and now
the tech that repaired your unit with the bad FETs.

I got a service call recently on an SW4024 system
that was having problems with appliances that were going bad. (Fortunately, I
did not originally install the system.) The Trace AC meter indicated an AC
output of 120 VAC. When I measured the AC output with a true RMS meter (Fluke
87) it was actually 140 VAC.
Trace tech support indicated that it was likely
due to bad FETs or a sensing transformer. I sent the unit to Trace for
repair.
Trrace received the unit and left word saying
that there were some bad FETs, possibly due to an overvoltage on the AC input
(a Kohler 6.5 kW generator in this system).
