I don't have any good leads
for a wireless system, but I had a thought for a argument against laying 120/240
VAC power lines in the same trench as the phone lines. With 10,000 feet of
parallel wire runs in the same trench, it seems like there might be a good
possibility of the power lines causing interference on the phone line.
Perhaps with CAT-5 phone lines interference might be avoided, but I have my
doubts. It's just a thought.
Have you considered a wireless
LAN type configuration? We are currently testing this type of system here in
Stelle and so far it has been totally stable. The data thru-put is about 3 times
faster than with a 33.6 modem connection. It seem like you could create a phone
link at the grid-end of the link. The type of wireless LAN we are testing is
line-of-sight, but with a directional antenna you should be able to get 4
to 6 miles of range provided there isn't too much stuff in the way
(like hills or lots of trees).
