<div dir="ltr">Hi William,<div><br></div><div>I'll rattle off a few notes based on some of my experiences:</div><div><br></div><div><div dir="auto">If I were to replace an old Sunny Boy transformer inverter with a modern transformerless inverter, what are the implications?</div><div><b>[August Goers] I'll forward you and the group an old SolarPro Magazine article called "Updates for NEC 2017 PV Systems" by Bill Brooks - he has some good points that address your questions. For the most part, the upgrade to a non-isolated transformerless inverter should be just fine.</b> </div><div dir="auto"><br></div><div dir="auto">I know I need PV rated or conduited feeders. </div><div><b>[August Goers] USE-2 should be fine, refer to article above</b></div><div dir="auto"><br></div><div dir="auto">Is PID an issue? </div><div><b>[August Goers] Yes, some modules have PID issues, primarily SunPower modules made in the 2012~2013 range or earlier. I've also heard that Evergreen mods have PID issues and probably others. Check the manufacturer info. </b></div><div dir="auto"><br></div><div dir="auto">Should I disable arc fault as a legacy entitlement or is arc fault even more important with older PV?</div></div><div><b>[August Goers] Since the inverter replacement is presumably considered maintenance, I know many of us think of making sure that the safety aspects of the new inverter system meet or exceed the original system. So, we typically try to enable arc fault if possible but not always, especially if the old array is causing false trips. Rapid shutdown comes up as well. </b></div><div><br></div><div><div><div dir="ltr" class="gmail_signature" data-smartmail="gmail_signature"><div dir="ltr"><div dir="ltr"><div dir="ltr"><p>Best, August</p><p>Luminalt</p></div></div></div></div></div><br></div></div><br><div class="gmail_quote"><div dir="ltr" class="gmail_attr">On Tue, Apr 23, 2024 at 4:10 PM William Miller via RE-wrenches <<a href="mailto:re-wrenches@lists.re-wrenches.org">re-wrenches@lists.re-wrenches.org</a>> wrote:<br></div><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0px 0px 0px 0.8ex;border-left:1px solid rgb(204,204,204);padding-left:1ex"><div dir="auto">Friends:</div><div dir="auto"><br></div><div dir="auto">I researched this and got no clear answer:</div><div dir="auto"><br></div><div dir="auto">If I were to replace an old Sunny Boy transformer inverter with a modern transformerless inverter, what are the implications?</div><div dir="auto"><br></div><div dir="auto">I know I need PV rated or conduited feeders. </div><div dir="auto"><br></div><div dir="auto">Is PID an issue? </div><div dir="auto"><br></div><div dir="auto">Should I disable arc fault as a legacy entitlement or is arc fault even more important with older PV?</div><div dir="auto"><br></div><div dir="auto">Thanks in advance. <br clear="all"><br><div dir="auto"><div dir="ltr" class="gmail_signature">William Miller<br>Miller Solar.com<br>805-438-5600<br><a href="http://www.millersolar.com" target="_blank">www.millersolar.com</a><br></div></div></div>
