We’ve always hired a roofer to work with us on slate roofs – they can setup toe boards (if it is steep) and work with our installers as we mount stanchions. We’ve used standard cylindrical posts such as Unirac standoffs or Pro Solar Fast Jacks and then they flash them with copper flashings.
