<DIV>Dana,</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV> I am no expert with ground source
heat pumps, but I suspect that the measurement you took was when the resistance
heat strips were on, which will only be used <EM>very</EM> infrequently in a
properly designed and operated GSHP system. Despite that, GSHP can be used
off-grid with the heat strips off, but add a couple more KWs to the
array and insulate the heck out of the structure, plus I suggest a LPG
back-up. </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV> GSHP's are not a slam-dunk
install. It is very important to find someone that will take a careful
look at the particulars of a job (house, climate zone, soil type,
etc....) to be sure the final product is efficient in its operation, esp
for off-grid.</DIV>

<DIV><BR></DIV>> What kind of power draw do you see on this unit? & what
kind of duty cycle do you see for 2 people or 4 people?<BR>> <BR>> I amp
clamped a 1800 sqft house heat pump for DHW & house heat in full power and
measured 4338 watts & have a rough time recommending heat pumps for off
grid.<BR>> <BR>>

Subject: [RE-wrenches] Water Heater Heat Pumps<BR>> <BR>> Water heater
heat pumps make excellent sense in a garage in HOT HUMID SOUTHERN CLIMATES and
about 700 square feet of garage space is necessary AND you must run a condensate
line like an air conditioner . DO NOT PUT THEM IN CLOSETS AND OR SMALL LAUNDRY
ROOMS UNLESS YOU CAN VENT 700 square feet of unconditioned air space to them .
They are noisy , but a garage in a humid hot southern climate is a good choice
and with a time clock set for 11:00 AM to 4: 00 PM when the air in the garage is
hot AND solar grid tied system is operating is a great strategy .
