We have recently found both Keira and Sandra in Outback tech support
to be quite helpful and knowledgeable.

Also, Outback has a new Director of New Product Development, Phil
Undercuffler. I believe that he will be a real asset to Outback, as
he was Positive Energy's lead installer and key technician from
1998-2004. He then worked at Conergy until that wasn't fun any more,
and now he's up in Washington at Outback. So he's a Wrench, a poster
to this list, and genuinely knows his stuff.

HI All,
I've had many issues with the Outback AGS.
Talking to outback is well to be frank a waste of time.
And to recap, the issues I'm talking about are: the AGS won't start when needed. However it will start when you go to the mate and go to manual on.
The only fix has been to use a new/factory reprogramed mate.
Rebooting to factory settings, doesn't work.
New battery doesn't work.
So I charge for the shipping fee and then just the old mate back for an upgrade.
And yes I would love to see something as reliable as the old SW AGS.
peace,
jay

Subject: Re: [RE-wrenches] Generator auto start
Thanks Mick and Ray.
William, I would equate the overall situation with OutBack gen
autostart as if I was leaving a teenager in charge of some important
function. Sometimes they do exactly what I ask of them, but often they
don't. I believe it is a software issue, as re-setting seems to undo
the problem and it works fine again, but I find myself back at one or
the other job again within a year or so. I want something simple and
relatively foolproof. A simple, voltage controlled switch (such as we
had for so long with the SW's) worked wonderfully. That is what I am
looking for. My experiences, and they have been many, have not built
confidence in OutBack's auto start capabilities. I have tried to
convince the owner that manual start is all they will need, to no
avail.
