the Surrette, lead calcium, L-16 style, wet cell battery starting in
2008. These are a part of an Outback grid-tied RE system. <br>

</font></font><font size="+1"><font face="Arial">After the second year
of operation today I checked and added water to the cells. </font></font><font
size="+1"><font face="Arial">The batteries used about 5 ml/cell over
the last year, so basically nothing. <br>
<br>
Once again I feel the need to recommend this battery chemistry for grid
tied with battery backup systems. The water consumption (as is typical
for lead calcium batteries) is basically nothing. The float charge rate
is also much less than standard lead antimony batteries. The expected
life is much longer too. I have an old set I got from the local hydro
plant I work at that were 20 years old at the time (the end of their
"service life"). After 25 years they are still going strong.<br>
