We are being required by a local building department to upgrade the type

of battery cable we are using.  We are using a cable listed by SAE

for automotive applications.  It is abrasion, acid and fuel

resistant.  We like the cable and think it is entirely adequate, but

it does not have a UL listing.<br><br>

Examining cables supplied by OutBack and Xantrex, we see UL listings

for<font size=3> MTW, THW or AWM.  Regarding MTW and THW, the 2005

NEC indicates these wires do not have acid resistance as a

property.  Regarding AWM, it is apparently not intended for field

installation as indicated by the passage found at this link:
