In a conversation with Rob Wills of AEI last week in Santa Fe, I was told that the CEC inverter efficiency ratings are not based on independent third-party testing but are simply the ratings supplied by the manufacturers. It's the opinion of some (many?) in the Land of Wrenches that the performance ratings of important components are not "honest" in terms of actual in-the-real-world output. So yeah, let's move toward more honest numbers. FYI: my AEI MM3000 here in Hawai'i in a grid-tied application with batteries is currently putting out AC power at 81+ percent of DC into the inverter and AC output to the loads. Try to find anything close to that from Brand X or Y. Plus the new PC200 monitoring software is way cool and tells the operator all kinds of important info.

Does not the CEC's PVUSA test conditions, the infamous PTC ratings, kind of
tell the story and level the playing field with their eligible inverter
ratings? Hasn't this been done before?
