LADWP and Siemens are a bad example. They present themselves as "PV authorities." When a "PV Guy" tells the truth, then prospects think PV Guy does not know what he is talking about. If a person does buy a PV system, that person feels that the solar industry has not told the truth about actual solar energy production.

It is ok to say "actual production will vary blah, blah, blah, but an experienced PV Guy can be exact about a system's PTC AC rating and can accurately estimate energy production plus/minus 10%.

Rule One in Selling - Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

So 3,600 kWh/ year = 9.86 kWh/day.Looks like they’re going by the CEC numbers too.I’ll bet they’ve got 20 SR100 modules (while they can still get them), CEC-rated at 89.9 watts x 5.5 hours = 9,889 Wh/day.

Are you holding this up as a good or bad example Joel?Cuz they’re going to fall probably about 30% short, just…ahem…like the systems that Real Goods and everybody else who quotes the CEC numbers is going to.

I’d sure rather look like a hero than a bum a year after a customer installs their Intertie system. Now, to convince the marketing morons AND the customers that honesty is the best policy…I got my work cut out for me.

This is what LADWP and Siemens say: "A 2,000-watt system (2kW) can supply the average home (1,500-2,000 sq. ft) with 20 to 60 percent of its power. With the incentive, a 2kW system costs approximately $8,000. A typical 2kW residential rooftop solar system produces 3,600 kW hours per year."
