Thought you may all find this of interest since we were on VFD's on big pumps using SW's.

I have a hydro system of about 4kw that runs a 9000 acre ranch.Using 2 stacked SW5548's and 16 L-16's it supplies power to four houses each with a propane furnace and there's at least 5 reefers and two deep freezes. This is in addition to all the usual loads of a normal house. In addition to all of this there is a 3 HP sub pump set at 450 feet. Even when there is a round up and branding and four or five electric branding irons are going this pump has only shut the system down twice in 21/2 years of operation. At times there's at least 15 cowboys taking showers one after another. I have been there when the pump kicks on and the lights only dim slightly. In all this time I have never done any service except replace an Enermaxer.

Now to the secret at least as explained by none other than a group of Vanner engineers I talked too.. Seems the 3500 + feet of 4/0-4/0-2/0 run all over the ranch and then to the pump acts as a soft start inductor. Seems reasonable??

Even with all of this wire a direct lighting strike 300 feet from the turbine/power house that blew a hole in the ground and fried a tree only fried the LED circuit in one SW that always keeps the error light on.

Wonders never cease.

And by the way the SOV was undamaged.
