Alan, for just a few LEDs, there is a good variety and pricing at Hosfelt electronics, 800-524-6464.  They have 4 full size pages of them for prices about 6 to 10 cents for standard red, 12 cents for standard green or yellow.  Also jumbo size and superbrights including blue and white for about 89 cents to $4.  We use 1000 ohms to operate them on 12 volts so I would guess around 4000 oh, for 48.  Start high and adjust down to get about 20 milliamp current, but slightly different values may be required for white and super-bright models.

Overall it is a good catalog of surplus stuff of good quality.  I can fax those pages to you if you need to order at once.

However if you need fewer than 10, I have a good assortment red, yellow, and maybe some green spare in the workbench that I would be glad to send you no charge.

Also: when you install the digital display on a Trace C-40 or C-60, a 2-color LED is removed and discarded.  save these and you can use them next time you need a separate LED.

Subject: LEDs [RE-wrenches]

Anyone suggest their best source for colored LEDs for signal apps? I need several red, yellow, and green LEDs for both indoor and outdoor apps for "pump on" (green), "tank low" (yellow); "tank very low" (red) -type signals. Will need resistors to operate at 48V. Your best sources in the US, please?
