Paul Gipe, one of our leading wind energy authors did some well-monitored, scientific testing at his place next door to the big Tehachapi wind farm in southern CA. He wrote a nice article, which Home Power declined to publish due to their "we don't publish negative reviews" policy. (It's an honorable policy Richard, don't change it.) But the article IS posted online here:

The real problem here is that there are no standard test conditions for small wind turbines, but hey, Paul explains it all better than me, go read his article.
