These rates are about the same as here in southern California and very fair.

From Robert Ingersoll
Hands that help are better than lips that pray.

...and from "that inverter bowl" in the sky, here is Joel's Formula for estimating how much time it takes to complete a job:
Step 1 - Estimate how much time it will take to do the job.
Step 2 - Multiple Step 1 times 2.
Step 3 - Convert Step 1 unit of measure to the next higher unit of measure.
Example: You estimate that it will take 10 minutes to do a job. 10 minutes times 2 equals 20 minutes. Then convert minutes to hours. It will take 20 hours to complete the job. Be careful about estimating that it will take 4 months to complete construction of your home :-)

If someone calls for service or help on a system someone else installed or an old system out of warranty I charge $65 total drive time and $105 an hour on site to diagnosis and give them an estimate.  If I can fix the problem on the spot the $105 is credited toward labor.  The $105 counts toward the first hour labor on a future service call if they accept my quote to fix their system.  However the drive time and $105 is due when I arrive - before I start my inspection and written estimate.  Knowledge and time is all you have.  Don't be afraid of the dark or to charge what you're worth. From the Rubaiyat by Omar Khayyam; And that inverted bowl they call the sky,Where under crawling coop'd we live and die,Lift not your hands to it for help,For it as impotently moves as you or I. Charge your customers for the grape in this magic shadow show,                                                             Subcomandante Solar Insurgente Gator Tom
