Hi Wrenches,

A group of us are in the process of creating an RE Test Lab.  If we can find a source of funding, we could easily include module testing in the agenda.

So far we are conducting tests that are cheap, but demonstrate a point.  There are a lot of issues that need to be looked into, some more expensive than others.

There are lots of action groups that are funded by various organizations.   For instance a group that radically opposes deforestation, both through the legal system and by direct action, is funded primarily by the Catholic Church.  Apparently creativity is the key.

The Re Lab is gaining support from volunteers, and slowly beginning to take on a life of its own.  We would like to be an advocate for renewable energy.   If anyone knows of a person  that is familiar with the world of grant procurement, who would like to do something for RE that could be major, please send him / her our way.

Thank you,

Drake

Hi Don,

I have wondered about that myself.  ( whether the closeness of the companies and Sandia  would somehow shade the reviews some?

I think maybe we can get HP into this as well.  Just objective reporting of the facts.

We could become the UL of PV?

They've actually BEEN running these kinds of tests for
years, but won't release comparison data for a wide variety of privacy-based
reasons (that somehow elude my comprehension).

My comprehension suggests that these agencies are a bit too close to the
manufacturers whom they test! We do need a "consumers reports" type group
that would be independent enough to offer unbiased data.  They need not
endorse. Simply publically make the data available.
