Tom, Aside from the pricing per square
foot of collector area, what made the Copper Cricket a bad unit? The
couple I see around are still producing hot water 7 plus years after their
installation and are using no pumps, controllers or electricity to do that.

Copper Cricket a bad
design
The copper cricket was one of the worst
solar water heaters ever made. It sold for ridiculous prices for the sq
footage exposed to the sun. Throw it away and use a PT-40 or another
real solar water heating system. See Home Power #27 page 64, 65 to
learn about the copper cricket and compare it to the article in Home Power
#25 page 37. Good riddance to the copper cricket and hopefully pest
control will prevent it from being resurrected from the graveyard of freaky
bad designs. Every experienced solar hot water contractor I knew thought it
was a bad joke.
