I'm following up on comments by Jay, Carl and others regarding reliability
and warranty.
I echo Jay, the top of my list is reliability. How about a 5 year warranty
with factory payment for in field service if required . Most Wrenches would
be able to do board swaps etc, and the need for field service-ability would
force designers to think about field service. Paying hundreds of dollars
shipping and breaking backs lifting these monsters must pass.
Does anyone recall the original press release by Trace announcing the ST
series?. They stated that units installed in California as part of a buydown
system would have a 5 year warrranty. I have seen no further mention?? What
about this Ezra? I'm pretty sure this 5 year warranty is part of the deal
Trace made with SMUD and the rest to industry should get the same.
I think we should get a 5 year warranty on all Trace products installed by a
servicing dealer. According to Traces (xantrex) press release they are
committed to quality and are not supporting low ball big box marketing of
their products. Ezra-this is one good way to put teeth and content to this
policy. Of course I hope this is part of the converstation at the upcomming
focus group-but frankly we don't need to wait.
Other items on my list:
Alll AC &DC disconnects should be included on the unit. (again like the ST
series). By having to buy these as "extras", Xantrex invites short cut
installations by DYI types. Responsible dealer installers must spec them in
and then it looks like we might be pumping up the sale with "extra stuff" If
the product can be installed to NEC standard out of the box- everyone
benefits. (By the way -a large part of the problem of working in small spaces
installing this hardware goes away)
