*T. Lane- My license in Florida specializes in solar contracting regarding
roofing work in installing All Types of solar panels on roofs. A
couple of notes on roof mounting hardware. Usually the strongest mounts
are J bolts premanufactured or made at the site to wrap around
the trusses. Spanners of trusses are more time consuming And must
be nailed or screwed into the trusses as the roof will flex in various weather
conditions loosening the spanner. The all thread rod through a roof must
be real near a rafter or a spacer block must be used to prevent pulling the roof
in as the mounting attachment rod pulls tight from above or below. Make
sure you consult with local licensed roofers in your area. All roof top
mounting hardware should not require a build up of the roof. The main
brackets and roof mounting hardware sold by manufacturers or site
built shown create at least a 1 1/2 " channel under the rack.
Research in Florida shows that solar panels in hot weather conditions need to be
over 3" off the roof not to suffer major voltage losses due to heat. Roof
temperatures here in Florida and Carribean often goes up to 170 degrees
farenheit. Beware of flat roofs, its best to use weight to hold solar
panels on the roof instead of making penetrations. Usually you void the
entire roof warrenty on a flat roof unless the roofer who put the roof on
is subcontracted to make the penetrations into the roof, especially true on
commercial roofs. Roofing work, in regards to mounting solar panels
requires a solar contractor CVC state license. An electrical contractor
is required to hire a state licensed roofer or a CVC solar
contractor to mount solar panels on any roof. The CVC license and
training is designed to qualify one contracting license to do all the work
required in mounting solar electric panels, solar hot water, and solar pool
heating. It's easy to get in Florida, if you've had any experience and are
willing to learn about worker's comp and safety laws and how to conduct a legal
business so that you prove to the bueraucracy that you know how to pay
Caesar all the taxes required to operate a business.
