I am not trying to be difficult here but my source just returned from Traces repair workshop (so that they can be authourized repair). What Charlie told me that so amazed him was the huge differences between the different models and that the largest surge ( he was told by the engineers in the testing division?) was not that 48v versions listed below.
I was able to look at testing numbers for those models that were what I posted the other day. Charlie also mentioned that the surge for the 48v models is only like 1 sec max ( at the 78 amps) vs 1 minute for the 4024 versions.
Now I am back to not knowing anything. I don't know which information actually is applicable in the field or in the testing lab?
From the real standpoint, rarely have I seen a SW inverter shut down from overload except for low battery. But still would be nice toknow what numbers are what??

Here are 5 second surge ratings with the AC output voltage measured at the end of the 5 second period. The load used was resistive (light bulbs) and the load was applied and quickly ramped (in about 1 second) from zero to the rated power via a large variac. The watts are "real" watts, measured with a Fluke 41B and a Power Tracer metering system. The battery bank consisted of sixteen L16 batteries with short 4/0 AWG battery cables. Actual field performance may be reduced by tripping of the battery breaker or blowing of the battery fuse depending upon its ratings and time delay characteristics.

This is very different than the normal 1 ms / 100 ms surge rating of amps and is better for understanding the ability of the different inverters to operate multiple AC loads. This does not represent motor start capabilities as this issue is more complicated. I hope that this clarifies the subject of inverter surge behavior some.
