I am preparing our 38-year-old home and property for sale as we are aging out of managing our off-grid lifestyle in the great north woods of Vermont. Our system uses Surrette/Rolls lead acids 12 KS33 2v cells in a 24v off-grid PV (8kW) and micro-hydro (.5kW) system. Occasionally our CO detector alarm would go off after a few hours of nice and hard absorption charge and we've lived with it ourselves with no problem because we know it is false alarm and can easily deal with it.
I am not wanting an issue with this with the new homeowners though, so I am making improvements to both our battery box venting system and also up grading our CO and Smoke Alarm system also. Please feel free to chime in with your experienced advice here. Here's what I'm planning on doing:
*
Replacing our weak little 24v Zephyr Power Vent in-line fan and 2" pvc vent pipeline with a AC Infinity CLOUDLINE A4, 4” Inline Duct Fan 165 CFM EC Motor, 29 dBA, adjustable speed fan - Typically used for Ventilation Exhaust Fan for Heating Cooling Booster, Grow Tents, Hydroponics, etc.
*
Upgrading our house to current Vermont standards for fire and CO safety by using hardwired combo units with battery backup that communicate with each other. I'm trying to find a unit that has a CO detector that minimizes false CO alarms triggered by H2. I think this one might be what I'm looking for:
*
Kidde 30CUA10-V Smoke & CO Combo in their Detect Series.
Thanks for all your help over the years,
Dave Palumbo, Hyde Park, VT 802-371-8678 if texting works better for you.
