The message size limit for our list server is set at 3.5 MB. Anything larger than that is likely to get rejected.

Message size includes your text, any quoted text, the list footers, any text and graphics in your signature, and (most significantly) any graphics attached to the message.

Usually, limiting total graphics size to under 3 MB is good enough to avoid triggering the message size limit.

Of course, it's also helpful for readability to avoid over-quoting messages you are responding to. Unedited quoting in responses to a chain of several replies can end up getting pretty long.

Why do we have this message size limit? To help out those with slower Internet connections, and to keep from peppering everyone's disks with large attachments.
