I saw this exact behavior recently with an older MX80. Replacing it
resolved the problem.

Follow-up.
The controller started up later after I left and according to history did
produce kWh.
I watched it for a good 15-20 minutes and it was in snooze the whole time.
Battery volts were low.
I’ve replaced it for now.
I ve never seen one do this before.
