 The big question is the 12V requirements.  If they don't use 12V directly,
they can go up in voltage to make the system
more efficient. I'm working on an upgrade for a client with the exact same
setup.  The old DR needs replacing and we care considering
Lithium batteries. With a 24V system, or better yet, a 48V system will make
adding more solar a lot easier.  I may suggest to my customer
a used outback VFX3524 to save money as I have one in  a recent trade-in.

 If you want to go with the latest technology, Victron makes some
really nice stuff with bluetooth communication.  Just need to have internet
to download the app. Depends on how techy your customer is.
Some like idiot lights, some simple clear readouts and some are connected
to their smart phones.
