[RE-wrenches] Fire rated (FR) gear toxicity?

My first welding shirt {FR coated} definitely got less retardant and burn holes started to happen over time & I switched to a god awful hot leather shirt, not that I washed it to death.
I think the answer to is it harmful? This depends on your personal take what is carcinogenetic & what do you consider safe in this world. My 0.02 is the FR coatings are to be used minimally, judiciously as needed & don't hang around or sleep in them. They have a purpose and are a requirement in the event of a mishap but I my take is that the FR coatings are truly nasty.

HI Dana,

Yes I agree.
I suppose my I started questioning this when I was just working at a US embassy on a array and everyone in the worker sections were wearing FR gear. Which would be 5 days a week all year, regardless of what they are doing which is very rarely doing any actual work on live circuits if they even work on any of the electrical parts of the embassy.

And my questions were: does the FR rating/coating wear out? I would think it does. And is it harmful to wear it all the time? Which I think it is.

Which is why I”m asking to see if anyone has actual data or seen reports etc on this.

I should have been more specific and clear on my original email.
