[RE-wrenches] MPPT over amp

Bill,

To answer your first question, you can wait 45 minutes on hold before SMA
hangs up on you. If you are waiting for a call back, good luck.

I have asked your MPPT question of SMA and they told me there was some
tolerance if we went over mppt amp rating (two strings pushes it in many
instances). They have also confirmed that we can put 100% of inverter
POWER rating on a single MPPT without any clipping (leaving the other MPPT
empty). I did not get into the MPPT ampacity clipping question as we have
not exceeded that value by anything significant (and I would say 0.4 A is
not significant). We have installed multiple projects that are just over
the individual MPPT amp rating without needing to change any function of
the inverter.

The SMA inverters still operate well even if their technical support does
not. My only complaint is sporadic, non-reproducible arc-fault events.

Matt
