[RE-wrenches] Generator backfeeding enphase?

We have tied in the PV to operate when the generator is operating, but only on a very large generator when the PV output was very small compared to both generator output and load (in which case it apparently looked like a reduction in load the to the genset, and actually saved some fuel). But I agree that there is significant potential for damage to the generator controls, etc., and would not validate or recommend it.

Solectria has a nice white paper on the subject:

http://solarprofessional.com/articles/products-equipment/inverters/q-a-interaction-of-grid-direct-inverters-with-backup

Also, discussions we’ve had with Enphase have been that it may be possible but would void the inverter warranty, which may well be the case with other inverter manufacturers.

I don’t think you are missing anything.

Does anyone think that there is no issue with having enphase potentially backfeeding a backup generator? We almost always will tie in upstream of a generator transfer switch, but a competitor is telling clients with an enphase system there is no concern. Am I missing something?
