1.) Neither the National Electric Code nor Ameren service specifications
allow
the use of the meter socket as a junction terminal box. In this
installation, a
landing terminal lug has been inserted on both hot legs and the neutral
with the
normal load side meter conductors running to the customer’s existing 200 amp
main disconnect. This meter socket’s lugs are not designed nor UL approved
for this application. If in fact this double landing of conductors were
allowed,
the National Electric Code mandates that all service disconnects for this
type of
installation be installed according to the six switch application. That
provision
requires that all service main disconnects must be installed so that all
mains can
be de-energized from one standing position.

2.) The A/C safety switch referenced in Jonathan’s message clearly outlines
where
this device must be located both electrically and physically: between the
customer’s service disconnect switch and the inverter’s output and adjacent
to the
Ameren revenue meter. The conductors running from the load side of the meter
to the A/C safety disconnect must be removed from within the meter socket.
The AC connection to the Ameren power source must originate from within the
customer’s 200 amp main disconnect panel. These conductors can not be routed
through the meter socket. Another route must be secured. The vacated hole
in the
side of the meter base must be plugged with an appropriate device intended
for
this purpose with a bolted connection being inside the meter base for
securing it
to the metal enclosure.

3.) The conductors running from the customer’s service main disconnect
distribution
panel to the AC safety switch must be comprised of two "hot" conductors, a
neutral, and an equipment ground. The neutral must be designated with
markings
as stated in NEC or by using a white jacketed conductor. The equipment
ground
can be green jacketed conductor.
