[RE-wrenches] Off Grid Alarm Communicator

Carl,

Alarm systems typically already have batteries. Usually 9 or 12 Ah VRLA.

For an off-grid version, I would size the battery based on the once a year event where the alarm is going off non stop for two days. That should also give some cloudy weather storage.

If possible, get all their equipment and set it up on a bench to make actual power and energy measurements.

Of course, for such a small system it might be ok to use the name plate rating, etc. Unless they are really budget contrained.

I would put another battery box next to the alarm box for the larger battery and the OCPs and charge controller.

I really like the Morningstar SunSaver MPPT 15A controller. The extra price over a PWM controller gives you data logging, software upgrade ability and of course MPPT.

Thank you,

Maverick
