I do not have enough experiance to say, but once with a Magnum and once with an Outback.  about 50% about 2000 watts with both installations the Grid tied inverter would shut down and start to count down again.  The battery based inverter kept on.  If I had an AC load I could get more from the DGI inverter.  I do not have any powerful measurement tools, just that it happened.

Wrenches,
We installed an AC coupled system a couple of years ago using a SB 3000 back feeding a Magnum MS 4448 AE. Array size is 2.4KW. The customer now wants to add a duplicate array with another SB 3000. From what I have read here on the 50% rule are we going to have shutdown/compatibility issues here if we back feed the Magnum with the second string? We can bypass it and feed the main panel instead of the sub but will lose the second array output in a power failure. Any help is appreciated.

Hi Darryl,

Interesting you mention is 50% rule.
Is this true for all bi-directional inverters?
And curious how you found out?  hard way or via engineer?
