I've seen inverters do just fine under construction of the house. As long as it isn't being overloaded every day.
As for bad connections, if the main DC connects aren't tight, you can get enough heat to melt the plastic insulators, and then it can short to the case.
I can send you an ugly picture....
PV connections would have nothing to do with the inverter.
