[RE-wrenches] squirrel problems & now, snow!

Wrenches -

Does anyone have photos of the squirrel problems and related fixes they can
send me offlist? I'm also looking for pictures of arrays with either snow
and ice related problems (excess buildup, wedged under the array etc) or of
arrays that handle snow well. I'm teaching a best practices class at the
Solar Power conference this year and would like to be able to address these
issues with some good pics. We'll certainly give you credit for your photos.

Since we primarily work in the Bay Area we don't run into either problem.

Thanks in advance, August

Here in the Albany region of NY, we have had a customer that developed a
ground fault after grey squirrels nested under the roof mounted modules &
nibbled their way thought the USE-2 whips on several modules. Nest got
moist, ground fault appeared, nest dried out, GF goes away.

We affixed an aluminum gutter guard to the East & West sides of the array &
dribbled the customer's rodent deterrent along it. We used Unirac SunFrame
and the N & S sides are pretty tight to the roof. Unfortunately they are
actively feeding the rodents in their back yard & while we were effecting
repairs watched many frolic on the squirrel amusement rides they had, all
filled with corn.

We also watched a grey squirrel run the neighbor's service line to their
roof & disappear, so we found their mode of access as well.

Remains to be seen if the problem has been resolved (rodents that is).

We also had another customer Poughkeepsie way call us when he heard
squirrels scratching between his array and roof.

They're out there..watching!

This is interesting to see what regions the squirrels are active.

I hear Vermont, Mass, New Hampshire, and Colorado

here in southern California I have heard of no problems

any other areas anybody knows of?

is it the cold weather?

is it only use-2 or is this including rhw?
