Jeff:
The Sunny Island has one AC IN position.
If you use both Grid and Gen, this is OK, but you need to install a manual
transfer switch to select between the two, and you need to install a limit
switch contact in the transfer switch which can send a "close" signal to the
Sunny Island to let it know whether it is working on the Grid parameters or
on the Generator parameters. If the parameters are the same, I guess it
doesn't matter.
Thanks,
Walt

Subject: Re: [RE-wrenches] Sunny Island 5048 & Enphase
I am sizing an on-grid with battery backup system that requires using a
ground-mounted array that will be some distance from the house. I was
favoring a Sunny Island with a 4 kW SunnyBoy with AC coupled to allow using
a higher voltage from the array and the 4 kW Sunny Island shown in their
product catalog which is perfect for this project, but all I can find is the
Sunny Island 5048.
Is the smaller inverter not yet available? I will also have a backup
generator with transfer switch feeding this system, so are there any issues
with the Sunny Island operating from both a generator and the grid depending
on which is available?
Thanks,
Jeff Yago
