Basically a bad idea. Even so called "dry" batteries, which are not really dry, will go bad if stored too long. I recall that the max storage time on them is around 18 months under good conditions.

Subject: [RE-wrenches] Battery Question
Hello All......we have a customer who is interested in storing some Surrette batteries with no electrolyte as a back up set of batteries......is there any time period that you would expect these batteries to remain healthy....do they start losing life after some time? how long can you store batteries with no electrolyte and still expect them to remain in good condition when you want to begin using them?
Thanks!!!
